A few days after my birthday in June, we got the news of a healthy bay colt! Then he went to his Hanoverian breed inspection and won a Gold Medal for scoring 8/10 or more on conformation, character and gaits! We were in awe of every photo and video snippet of him being curious, friendly and levitating off the ground. He weaned from his mother without issue and we brought him home after a long journey from Nova Scotia. We all welcomed Elijah, named after my mother's grandfather, who was a dedicated horseman. Many thanks to Little River Hanoverians!
I was not looking for another horse. In fact, at this time last year, we were finalizing Ludwig's sale and I liked the idea of ONLY owning TWO horses, the fewest we'd had since 2004! I was not looking at 'for sale' ads, but I did follow a couple of Canadian breeders who were still using bloodlines that interested me. Then the prospect of a horse by the young Escolar son, Ellis, and out of a Diamond Hit mare, so close to my dear old DiMaggio's pedigree, caught me like a bass on a Wacky Worm. We moved on the in-utero purchase and I told myself many, many times "We'll see, don't get emotional until it's time to get emotional."
