We took Ludi for a weekend of jumping lessons with Hyde Moffat at Noble Touch Equestrian in Ashton ON October 8-9. Hyde is an accomplished rider with a great reputation for working with green horses, and I signed up in the summer time, still inspired from our spring lessons with Jen Hamilton.
Ludi took one look around the arena and seemed to say 'Oh yeah, I can do this!'.
Hyde's delivery is much different than Jen's but the message was surprisingly similar: the rider must do less, and earlier, to improve the horse's performance.
It was remarkable to see how each rider in our group improved over the weekend, and I really felt the difference in my own riding style by the end: more leg support, hands in front and quiet, shorter reins.

Here's a mashup of individual jumps I clipped from the camera, with our final course at the end. You can hear some of Hyde's insight at the end. He'd gotten to know Ludi by then, and described him as 'on and off', like a lightswitch. My job is to keep things subtle and avoid the extremes.
