Last year we moved to Pembroke, ON which is back in Zone 4. The sheer abundance of life and nature all around us is still overwhelming me. I've loved to get my hands in the soil for a long, long time. My mother surely gave me the passion for it, along with the shovels full of iris, hosta and bleeding hearts she brought me from her own gardens during her last visit. I am also trying to grow some pink poppies from seeds that my aunt gave me. She said they were a favorite of my grandmother, so I might have the green gene on both sides!
My dear late father-in-law also loved to garden, and we talk about him often while building the collections of sedum, hosta and dianthus, which were some of his favorites.
I've often thought about how horses can span the generations and bring people together. A lifetime of research and practice only scratches the surface of what can be learned. For me, gardening has a lot of similarities!
